Alaska Airlines claims that hey make sure to strive to make your travel experience as easy, safe, and comfortable as possible. This includes those people traveling with an emotional support animal.

However, even though Alaska Airlines feel happy to serve you and your emotional support animal, be sure to follow their rules and regulations concerning your emotional support animal by Alaska Airlines Pet Policy.

Pre-Flight ESA Requirements for Alaska Airlines

Before you book a flight on Alaska Airlines, there is some form-filling that you must have in place in order to be allowed on board with your Emotional Support Animal. You will need to be eligible for an ESA Letter from an LMHP and your ESA letter must include the following:

• The emotional/mental disability must be listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders – Fifth Edition (DSM-V)

• You must need the ESA for the flight itself or the support at your final arrival point

• Your licensed mental health professional must provide his/her license number, the jurisdiction or state of issue and the date of that issued license

• Your ESA letter must be on your licensed mental health professional’s official letterhead and dated no later than one year from traveling date

Additional Alaska Airlines Emotional Support Animal Documents (Updated Nov 8, 2019)

After Alaska Airlines updated, now they have the policy for you to complete 3 additional forms (in addition to your ESA letter) for your emotional support animal. Their form was updated recently, so even if you have flown with them before, make sure you have the right form for any upcoming trips. The new Alaska Airline forms can be found on their official website.

The new Alaska Air forms require the following:

• Animal Health Advisory Form

• Mental Health Professional Form

• Guest Liability Form

In-Cabin Policies Concerning ESA’s & Alaska Airlines

When you are on board with Alaska Airlines, your pet must be under your control at all times and may not block the aisle or any exits. You will also not be allowed seating in the emergency exit rows. Emotional support animals are not allowed on the seats, but they may sit at your feet or on your lap.

If another customer is sensitive to your emotional support animal, the flight attendant will be able to place them in another seat away from your ESA.

What Type of Emotional Support Animals Are Not Allowed on Alaska Airlines?

Alaska Airline does have some strict policies on the types of ESA’s they will allow in the cabin of the aircraft. ESA’s that are not allowed are on board includes;

• Reptiles

• Snakes

• Hedgehogs

• Spiders

• Sugar Gliders

• Rodents

• Ferrets

• Non-household birds (farm poultry, fowl, etc.)

• Smelly or unkempt animals

• Unusual or exotic animals

Alaska Airlines and Emotional Support Animals

Alaska Airlines wants to make your traveling experience a pleasant and hassle-free one, so be sure to have your paperwork in order and ready to give to one of their customer care agents. In addition, although Alaska Airlines does not specifically identify this policy, it is always best to give the airline advance notice of having an ESA and to arrive well ahead of your scheduled flight time.
